Shipping the Prototype

Shipping the Prototype

If you need to ship your prototype, information is provided below for shipping to the Hampton Roads Convention Center (HRCC).
It is important to use the following exact address to ensure your prototype is not unpacked upon arrival, and can be located as a part of our event:

Samantha Snead
Attn: [Team lead Name], [University], NASA MMIP Sept. 23-25
1610 Coliseum Drive
Hampton, VA 23666

  • Due to size and receiving area limitations, prototypes cannot be stored for long periods at the HRCC. Shipments must be scheduled for arrival between Monday, September 20th and Wednesday, September 22nd. (We recommend scheduling delivery for Monday!)
  • There are no costs to receive or hold the prototype during this window. However, HRCC will charge teams $75/hour for a forklift operator, should a forklift be needed.
  • Teams will not be able to access prototypes shipped to this location until the morning of September 23rd.

Important Notes about Shipping Prototypes:

  • Neither NASA nor NIA are responsible for shipments.
  • All costs related to shipping, receiving, and/or holding your prototypes will be the sole responsibility of the team, and will be done so at your own risk.
  • Be sure to track your package, particularly close to its arrival date, and notify Janice Miller as soon as possible if you notice any changes to the shipment arrival date and time.
  • Lessons learned from previous teams include warnings to pack your prototypes very carefully to minimize vibrational damage caused during shipping.

Notify Janice Miller (Janice.miller@nianet.org) by August 19 if you plan to ship your prototype to the HRCC, so that we can notify our contact at the HRCC accordingly.

To ensure the health and well-being of all of our participants, judges, and staff, we will be implementing several safety measures during the competition.

  • MMIP Event credentials will reflect participant vaccination status to enable the enforcement of mask-wearing for unvaccinated individuals.
  • One fabric NASA mask will be provided to each participant upon Check-In at the Forum.
  • *Fully vaccinated is defined as having received the full dose of vaccination required; receiving the final dose prior to September 8, 2021.
